Permanent residence card — is a permanent residence permit in Poland. The permit itself is indefinite; the plastic card is replaced every 10 years.
From 27 April 2026 the application is filed via MOS only (mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl). This is not an EU long-term resident card and not a Karta Polaka. We will help you choose the ground and handle the filing.

What does a permanent residence card give?
With permanent residence you can usually live in Poland for good, work without a separate work permit, run a business and travel in Schengen as a residence-permit holder (the 90/180 rules). This is not travel «on an EU passport»: there is no voting right.
Citizenship is the next stage: with a Karta Polaka the guide is often about a year of permanent residence, by ancestry more often about three years, plus the language and other conditions.

Who can apply for a permanent residence card?
Frequent grounds for permanent residence:
- Polish origin (a parent, a grandmother or a grandfather);
- Karta Polaka and the intention to live in Poland;
- marriage to a Polish citizen — usually at least 3 years of marriage and the required period of life in Poland on a suitable residence permit; we will check the details;
- certain cases after international protection. A humanitarian residence permit does not become permanent residence by itself.
EU resident — a different status; we do not mix it with permanent residence. Income and Polish B1 are not needed on every ground: for roots and a Karta Polaka an exam is usually not required.
Documents for permanent residence: the papers you need
We load the pack into MOS. What goes in depends on the ground — a universal list from the internet often does not fit.
- an application in MOS;
- a passport: scans into the system, the original at the appointment;
- documents on the ground: origin, a Karta Polaka, marriage and so on;
- housing and, if the law requires it, the intention to live in Poland;
- a digital photo;
- stamp duty — we will tell you the amount at the consultation.
Fingerprints are taken at the summons appointment at the office. Translations must be sworn. We will assemble a checklist for your ground.
How obtaining a permanent residence card works
Obtaining a permanent residence card in Poland includes several stages:
We will sort the ground and assemble the pack in MOS: scans, a photo, Profil Zaufany or an electronic signature.
We will file the application in MOS. A booking for paper filing at the voivodeship is no longer needed.
You pay the stamp duty. At the summons appointment — fingerprints, a signature and the original passport.
We handle the case: the office’s requests, follow-up through MOS or e-Doręczenia. The timeline depends on the voivodeship.
If the decision is positive we will help you collect the card. Processing time depends on the voivodeship.

On what grounds can you obtain a permanent residence card?
Most often people go like this:
- by ancestry — documents on Polish origin;
- with a Karta Polaka — a separate procedure, also through MOS;
- marriage to a Polish citizen — we will check the marriage and stay periods against your stamps and cards;
- after protection / refugee status — only if the law expressly provides for it, not to be confused with a humanitarian residence permit;
- EU resident — a different status (a card for 5 years), not another kind of permanent residence.

How long does obtaining a permanent residence card take?
It depends on the voivodeship and the ground. Often several months, sometimes longer. There is no exact timeline for all voivodeships.
Can you file for permanent residence and citizenship at the same time?
Usually no: first permanent residence (or an EU long-term resident card), then citizenship. With a Karta Polaka the time to citizenship is often shorter (a guide of about a year of permanent residence), by ancestry more often about three years. Confirmation of citizenship is a separate procedure.
How does a permanent residence card differ from a temporary residence permit?
The permit is indefinite, work is not arranged separately, the plastic card lasts 10 years. This is already permanent residence, not another temporary stay.
