Confirmation of citizenship (potwierdzenie)<\/strong><br \/>If a parent was a Polish citizen at the moment of your birth and the chain was not broken (the acts of 1920, 1951 and 1962, emigration, service in a foreign army can interrupt the status), you may already be a citizen without naturalisation. A B1 exam is usually not needed. What you need is a genealogy with certificates and records.<\/p><p><strong>2. Recognition as a citizen (uznanie za obywatela)<\/strong> \u2014 the most common path if you do not yet have citizenship:<\/p><ul><li>about <b>3 years<\/b> <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/mialegal.pl\/en\/karta-stalego-pobytu\/\">permanent residence<\/a> or <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/mialegal.pl\/en\/eu-resident-card\/\">EU long-term resident status<\/a>, housing, a stable income, Polish B1;<\/li><li>with a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/mialegal.pl\/en\/karta-polaka\/\">Karta Polaka<\/a> \u2014 often <b>1 year<\/b> of permanent residence, then recognition (first <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/mialegal.pl\/en\/vng-karta-polaka\/\">Permanent residence via a Karta Polaka<\/a>, that is not yet a passport);<\/li><li>marriage to a Polish citizen \u2014 usually <b>3 years of marriage<\/b> and <b>2 years<\/b> of permanent residence or an EU long-term resident card, plus the language;<\/li><li>separate time limits for international protection \u2014 not to be confused with a humanitarian residence permit.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>3. Obtaining citizenship through the president (nadanie)<\/strong> \u2014 a presidential decision, not a guaranteed fast-track naturalisation. We take it if other paths do not add up, and we talk about the risks in advance.<\/p><p><strong>4. First we choose the procedure, then the papers.<\/p><p><strong>Almost always:<\/strong> an application, a passport, birth certificates (yours and along the line), sworn translations into Polish, sometimes an apostille.<\/p><p><strong>For confirmation of citizenship:<\/strong> a chain of records to an ancestor-citizen, documents on names and surnames, sometimes archives from Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Kazakhstan. We check whether citizenship was interrupted in the chain.<\/p><p><strong>For recognition (uznanie):<\/strong> a permanent residence card or an EU long-term resident card, housing, income, a Polish <b>not lower than B1<\/b> from the recognised list, not a certificate from a language course.<\/p><p><strong>For the Karta Polaka path:<\/strong> a valid Karta Polaka and permanent residence of the right length. A Karta Polaka itself does not confer citizenship.<\/p><p><strong>For marriage:<\/strong> a marriage certificate, residence cards, the period of life together in Poland \u2014 on the documents.<\/p><p>Filing for citizenship is not MOS. If you still need permanent residence before a passport, that is exactly what we file through MOS. The language for uznanie is as a rule still confirmed.<\/p><p><strong>Polish citizenship by roots \/ origin.<\/strong> These are two different things. If an ancestor <b>was a citizen<\/b> and the status reached you \u2014 we confirm citizenship. If there is Polish nationality but there was no citizenship \u2014 more often first <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/mialegal.pl\/en\/permanent-residence-roots\/\">permanent residence by ancestry<\/a>, then uznanie after about 3 years, or a Karta Polaka if that is faster. We do not mix these paths in one application.<\/p><p><strong>Polish citizenship through marriage.<\/strong> The legal guide: marriage to a Polish citizen of at least 3 years and at least 2 years of permanent residence or an EU long-term resident card. We count the time on the documents.<\/p><p><strong>Polish citizenship with a permanent residence card.<\/strong> The usual guide is <b>3 years<\/b> of permanent residence or an EU long-term resident card, income, housing, B1. Not two years for everyone. Exceptions \u2014 a Karta Polaka (a year) and marriage (two years of permanent residence with three years of marriage).<\/p><p><strong>EU long-term resident.<\/strong> For recognition it often plays the same role as permanent residence: its own 3 years of status.<\/p><p><strong>Children.<\/strong> Sometimes they file with a parent or acquire citizenship another way.
